This prestigious honour recognizes organizations with the country's most robust health and safety culture, extending beyond the workplace to the broader community.
BGIS is the proud recipient of the WSIB Award for Canada's Best Health and Safety Culture at the Canada Safest Employers Award Ceremony on October 19, 2023. This prestigious honour recognizes organizations with the country's most robust health and safety culture, extending beyond the workplace to the broader community.
This accolade underscores BGIS's unwavering commitment to integrating safety into our daily operations, viewing it as a core aspect of our identity. Receiving this award in 2023 is a source of immense pride, reflecting our dedication to prioritizing safety.
BGIS's application, submitted in spring 2023, showcased our comprehensive safety management system. Rigorous research and validation by Canada’s Safest Employers Awards team, drawing on Canadian Occupational Safety insights, affirmed our nomination. Employee perception surveys and interviews with our front line team members, supervisors and leadership further solidified BGIS's standing, culminating in this prestigious recognition.
The assessors for the award commented: “A common theme throughout all interviews was a narrow distance between front-line staff and senior leadership, certainly when discussing health and safety. Senior leadership welcomes workers to voice their health and safety concerns and suggestions for making the workplace healthier and safer, and workers certainly feel valued and respected for their opinions.”
All submissions from the excellent awardees were then forwarded to an independent judging panel of respected experts, thought leaders, and veterans in occupational health and safety. This esteemed panel meticulously assessed and voted for the winners in each category based on the relevant criteria. Employing a straightforward points system to aggregate the judges' votes, the excellent awardee with the highest score in each category was ultimately designated as the winner.
BGIS Canada President Mike Greidanus proudly stated: “This is such a meaningful award because it recognizes BGIS as an organization where safety is Indeed woven into the fabric of our daily activities. It’s in our DNA, as we like to say, and many of our team members echoed this during the submission process. This is truly an award for the entire company!”
