EV Charging Strategy

Implementing EV charging into your business takes thoughtful consideration concerning the application, environment, business case, and risk mitigation. Our BGIS EV Engineering team has delivered 500+ L2 & L3 charger stations and is ready to help you design a solution that provides optimal flexibility and scalability to future-proof your EV charging infrastructure strategy.

BGIS offers complete EV charging solutions from concept, design, and engineering to turnkey project management and ongoing managed services, including service and maintenance. Our EV solution delivers the right technology for your business, including all charging station levels, depending on your business needs. The following are examples of the charging stations and potential applications to help in assessing your requirements:

Level 1 – Level 1 chargers are the easiest to install but have the slowest charging speeds of any charger type. The charging unit is simply plugged into a standard 120-volt outlet while the other end plugs into the electric vehicle. The power output is AC and limited to between 1 to 2 kW's. This provides about 3 to 7 miles (5 to 11 km's) of range to your vehicle per hour and will take 40+ hours to fully charge your EV.

Level 2 – Level 2 chargers are faster than Level 1 chargers but require additional installation requirements. This charger typically involves securely mounting the unit on a wall or a pedestal and ensuring appropriate electrical connection to the building system. Level 2 chargers typically deliver 7 to 20 kW's of power, providing EV users with faster charging than Level 1 chargers. Level 2 chargers will fully charge a typical EV in about 8 to 10 hours.

Level 3 – Level 3 chargers, also known as DC Fast Chargers (DCFC), are the fastest and most expensive EV chargers available. They will require engineering design, infrastructure upgrades and utility service improvements to install. Since Level 3 chargers provide DC power, they don't require AC/DC inverter in order to get the electrical power into the car's DC battery, enabling the charger to input more power in a shorter period of time. Current DCFC's provide up to 350 kW's of power, capable of recharging an EV to 80% charge in 20 to 45 minutes.

BGIS provides installation services with options that include fixed monthly payments, no upfront capital, 100% coverage, and owner/operator revenue sharing. With an EV Charger program, you can also earn points toward LEED certification and contribute to attaining your organization's energy and sustainability goals.

Making EV Charging Services Affordable

Working with our strategic solutions partners, BGIS offers financial services and “As a Service” business models with flexible terms and payment options, making a choice to invest in EV charging stations more affordable. BGIS makes choosing clean power more attractive with options such as leasing, Epact, utility rebates, and cost segregation.

  • Short-Term Leasing: Up to five years with a positive cash flow and no upfront capital, leasing will provide energy savings and cash conservation.
  • Epact: Reduce the tax burden a profit company might bear, and BGIS can facilitate the paperwork and expertise you require for this write-off.
  • Utility Rebates: Where rebates are available, they can reduce your project costs and increase your return on investment.
  • Cost Segregation: To avoid carrying a ghost asset during your building and property’s depreciation schedule, cost segregation accelerates your replaced assets’ depreciation time and can decrease your tax burden.
